Annual events in Anchorage, Fairbanks

The Anchorage Senior Citizens Advisory Commission invites everyone to the annual Older Americans Month Kickoff Event at the Anchorage Senior Activity Center on May 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This free event features refreshments, entertainment, a special keynote speaker and presentation of the Ron Hammett Award for public service.

This year’s theme is “Age Out Loud.”

Support for the event is provided by the Aging and Disability Resource Center, Anchorage Senior Activity Center, Chugak/Eagle River Senior Center, Older Persons Action Group, Inc., Assisted Living Association of Alaska, Marlow Manor Assisted Living Home, Midnight Sun Home Care, Inc., NANA and Turnagain Social Club.

Fairbanks Senior Recognition Day

Also in May, Fairbanks’ annual Senior Recognition Day event will be held Thursday, May 4 at the Carlson Center, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event provides a free meal, speeches by local dignitaries, informational tables, and presentation of Lifetime Fitness Awards. Transportation to and from the event is available by calling Van Tran at 459-1010. Call soon: this event is one of the largest of the year, with hundreds attending.

The submission deadline for Lifetime Fitness nomination forms is April 7. Guidelines and forms are available online for download at http://www.co.fairbanks.ak.us/pr/Pages/Seniors.aspx in the “Senior Program Documents” area.
