AARP Alaska, Older Persons Action Group and the Anchorage Senior Activity Center continues its series of “Age Smart – Let’s Talk” forums on Dec. 11, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Anchorage Senior Activity Center.
The series is a monthly forum that focuses on a topic of interest and importance to Alaskans who want to be thoughtful about how to make good choices as they grow older. The series is developed to provide working age adults with information necessary to plan and fulfill a secure, healthy and satisfying “life After 60” (all ages are welcome). Each month the series highlights a particular topic with a variety of formats, including issue experts, panel discussions, interactive presentations, and plenty of time for questions. There is no charge for the monthly presentations, but as light refreshments will be provided pre-registration is appreciated (come early for the food).
The Dec. 11 forum will explore the topic “Keeping an Attitude of Gratitude.”
With the holidays close upon us, many people feel stressed for one reason or another. For some it is even a time of an acute sense of loss and sadness. These feelings are a sharp contrast to the essential holiday messages of peace, hope, joy, blessings and giving. Sometimes the same can be said of growing older -- many mixed emotions accompany the journey. For this December, and throughout the years ahead, how can we keep an attitude of gratitude? Leading the discussion will be Malcolm and Cindy Roberts, well known cheerful Alaskans who’ve contributed to the joys of many. Also, Rev. Martin Eldred, pastor of Joy Lutheran Church in Eagle River, will help provide a reflective, spiritual aspect to the discussion.
No matter how many times we ask ourselves these questions, it is difficult to come to a conclusion. Join our guest of panelists to discuss these topics, and bring your questions (and answers).
Registration (so we know how to prepare for refreshments) is at https://aarp.cvent.com/AWDEC112018.
