Farmers' Market Coupons available in June

June is the month seniors can start using Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program coupons. Each recipient gets six coupons, worth $5 each, which can be used through Oct. 31.

Coupons are issued to low-income seniors and can be exchanged for fresh Alaska-grown fruits, vegetables, fresh-cut herbs and honey at farmers’ markets and authorized farms and roadside stands.

The program distributes the coupons to senior centers and other agencies, which pass them on to seniors age 60 or older who meet the program’s income guidelines. Call your local senior center for information on getting your coupons.

Along with their sheet of coupons, seniors will get a list of locations where the coupons can be used. Also, the list of agencies distributing the coupons is online at the web address below.

New for this year: Food Bank of Alaska will be distributing coupons.

Complete income guidelines and other information is on the Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program Web site at https://bit.ly/1Uylb86

The site includes a link for application proxy forms, with Hmong, Korean, Russian and Spanish translations available upon request.
