Learn how your Congressional office works for you

‘Age Smart’ forum Sept. 10 in Anchorage

“Age Smart – Let’s Talk”, the series of forums sponsored by AARP Alaska, Older Persons Action Group and the Anchorage Senior Activity Center, returns Sept. 10, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Anchorage Senior Activity Center.

This month, learn how United States Senators and Representatives offer Constituent Services for the people they represent in Congress. Casework staff located at home district offices of Congress members provide services such as contacting federal agencies for problems with a wide range of issues including health care; consumer affairs and protection; homeownership and foreclosure prevention; immigration/visas/deportation; IRS/taxes; Medicare; military/veterans/passports; Social Security; and student loans. However, congressional offices cannot help with matters that involve state agencies or the judicial system. This month we welcome Sherry Edwards from Sen. Murkowski’s office, and Rachel Bylsma from Sen. Sullivan’s office to talk about their valuable services for Alaskans.

The “Age Smart – Let’s Talk” series is a monthly forum that focuses on a topic of interest and importance to Alaskans who want to be thoughtful about how to make good choices as they grow older. The series is developed to provide working age adults with information necessary to plan and fulfill a secure, healthy and satisfying “life After 60” (all ages are welcome). Each month the series highlights a particular topic with a variety of formats, including issue experts, panel discussions, interactive presentations, and plenty of time for questions.
